Finance Controller

Ginkgo’s Finance Controller will be responsible for the financial management of the Company and for accurately controlling the Company accounting activities through the development and management of financial controls and financial policies and procedures. They will be responsible for ensuring that the rest of the Company adheres to these financial controls and policies and procedures. 

Role and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Company financial systems and controls are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth

  • Ensure that there are policies, training and tools in place for all employees, so they know how to follow the correct financial policies and procedures

  • Develop and oversee the continuous improvement of accounting and financial processes

  • Ensure that the business debtors and creditors are adequately controlled

  • Ensure that the company’s fixed assets register and depreciation schedules are updated when required

  • Ensure that the company insurance cover is reviewed annually and adjusted as required

  • Drive legal compliance, risk and governance across all aspects of the business

  • Ensure all legislative requirements are met to ensure compliance with CIPC and SARS standards, as well as the Companies Act, in consultation with the auditor/independent reviewer

  • Prepare reports and documentation required for audits/annual independent review

  • Prepare estimates of annual taxable income for calculation of Provisional Tax payments in consultation with Senior Management

  • Assist auditor/independent reviewer with information/documentation required for tax submissions, i.e. income tax, dividends tax, capital gains tax, etc.

  • Together with the HR, manage the process of payroll inclusive of monthly payment to SARS

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns

  • Manage the process of issuing a tax clearance certificate when needed

  • Together with the HR, liaise with appointed B-BBEE advisor and Senior Management regarding planning and implementation to ensure B-BBEE compliance

  • Together with the HR, assist the appointed B-BBEE advisor and verification agency by submitting financial information/documentation required for annual B-BBEE verifications

  • Ensure compliance of 3rd party suppliers in line with BBBEE

  • Manage and recon bank account/s and credit or debit cards

  • Manage the process and use of company bank cards and ensure safe storage thereof when not in use

  • Prepare and present annual operational budget in consultation with relevant team members and Senior Management

  • Prepare and present monthly, year to date and annual financial results to Senior Management

  • Prepare any other financial reports or tasks reasonably requested by Senior Management

  • Prepare and present annual cashflow forecast in consultation with relevant team members and Senior Management

  • Update and distribute monthly cashflow forecast to Senior Management on a weekly basis

  • Monitor the current account and ensure that internal banking transfers are made

  • Capture and release payments on online banking system and manage user profiles

  • Process and submit Outgoing Telegraphic Transfer (OTT) applications

  • Issue conversion instructions for inward telegraphic transfers, in consultation with Senior Management

  • Ensure all financial reporting requirements are met according to standards set by the Financial Reporting Standards Council (FRSC) of South Africa, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and IFRS for SMEs in consultation with auditor/independent reviewer

  • Lead, manage, support and develop the Finance team

  • Conduct ad hoc financial duties as required

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicable qualification in Accounting or Financial Management 

  • 5 -7 yrs of relevant working experience within finance 

  • Well versed in accounting best practices

  • Knowledgeable of B-BBEE compliance requirements for a Qualifying Small Enterprise (QSE)

  • Knowledgeable of tax laws regulated by the South African Revenue Service (SARS)

  • Excellent analytical abilities and attention to detail

  • In-depth understanding of budgeting, cash flow and risk management

  • Ability to handle large volumes of data

  • Knowledge and understanding of Accounting and Expense Capturing Software

  • Competent in the use of GSuite and Windows as a supporting tool 

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel 

  • Proven leadership abilities
